VEGAN SPETSOFAI – DELICIOUS TRADITIONAL GREEK RECIPE

Hi friends! Hope everybody is great! One more traditional Greek recipe! This time we will be making spetsofai! Which is basicaly sausages in tomato sause with onions and peppers! Such a scrumptious treat that nobody can resist to! Easy to make, full of flavors and filling! Serve it with some rice or mashed potatoes. Give it a go and let e know what you think!

A delicious veganised Greek recipe that everybody loves!

Ingredients

  • Olive oil

  • 300 gr seitan sausages*

  • 1 large onion

  • 2 cubanelle peppers

  • 1 red bell pepper

  • 1 green bell pepper

  • 1 yellow bell pepper

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • 100 l red wine

  • 400 ml (1 can) crushed tomatoes

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp oregano

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 pinch chili flakes

  • Black pepper

  • 1 tsp molasses

Directions

  • Cut the sausages in small bites. Cut the peppers and the onions stripes.
  • In a lare pan over medium heat add some olive oil. Once hot throw in the sausages and saute until brown. Add the onion and peppers and saute until fragrant.
  • Add the tomato paste and saute for another minute or two. Pour n the wine and stir. After 5 minutes, when the alcohol will have evaporated add the crushed tomatoes, water, the molasses and the spices. Stir well, lower the heat and cover, let cook for five minutes.
  • Uncover and let simmer for 5 – 10 minutes. Once most of the liquids are gone it is ready. Serve with some rice or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • Instead of the seitan sausages you can use any other vegan sausages you like.
  • Instead of molasses you can use sugar.
